Yuzhnaya CHP marks its 35th anniversary

February 8, 2013 Yuzhnaya CHP marks its 35th anniversary. Today it is the most powerful combined heat and power plant of TGC-1 in St. Petersburg: it provides electricity and heat to Moscovsky, Frunzensky and Nevsky districts, including developing neighborhoods Kupchino and Ribatskoe. More than 900,000 people are warmed by energy of Yuzhnaya CHP.

The construction project was approved by the Ministry of energy of the USSR in 1975. The station gave heat in 1977 after commissioning of the first boiler. For the next eight years three power units with the capacity of 250 MW were put into operation.

In late 2007 the project "Expansion of Yuzhnaya CHP by PGU-450" started and became a priority for TGC-1. Its realization provided cover the shortage of electricity in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, will reduce the environmental burden on air in St. Petersburg and gave a powerful impetus to the development of industrial and business complex in the area of the ring road.

Now Yuzhnaya CHP is not only the most powerful station of TGC-1, but also one of the most modern and environmentally friendly in the city.
