Large-scale fire-fighting exercise at Niva HPP-3

At Niva HPP-3, underground stations of TGC-1's Nivskiye HPPs Cascade, located in Kandalaksha, fire-fighting exercise was carried out. Operational staff of power station and Kandalaksha’s fire garrison took part in training, maneuvers were controlled by the firefighters from other settlements of Murmansk region.

According to the legend, fire occurred in the transformer T-2. Destruction of equipment led to the pouring and ignition of oil that raised the danger of fire spread to a nearby transformer. After the detection of inflammation engineer on duty reported incident to the fire department. To the point of disaster came six units. After inspection a huge foam attack of the fire was held, at the same time staff was trying to cool transformer in the object to prevent it from fire.

Owing to the coordinated and prompt actions of emergency services and personnel of hydro station fire was localized and eliminated.

According to Oleg Potankin, chief engineer of Nivskiye HPPs Cascade, station’s staff clearly followed the instructions and worked well. "Such large-scale exercise involving a great number of rescue services as participants and observers was held at our station for the first time, - he added. - However, fire-fighting trainings are conducted regularly. Hydropower stations are united with high level of risk, so we paid attention to the issue of human security and use of our equipment".
