25 July 2013

July 25, 2013 Aleksandr Hudilainen visited Matkozhnenskaya HPP. Head of the Republic of Karelia got acquainted with the work carried out on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the station.

Vitaly Kozlov, director of Vygskiye HPPs Cascade, told to Aleksandr Hudilainen about the stages of recovery of Matkozhnenskaya HPP after the flood of 2012. Then the abnormal rains in Belomorsky area led to the inability of ulverts to handle the large volume of water. Wave had washed the railroad, road and dam of Matkozhnensky stream. As a result, there was a partial flooding of the machine hall and technological rooms of station.

While visiting restored rooms Vitaly Kozlov noted that the rapid disconnection of hydraulic units on 8 August 2012 helped to avoid more serious consequences for the region. The first priority after the disaster was to ensure supply of the inhabitants of Sosnowiec, and the restoration of basic equipment. As a result of taken actions the unique temporary scheme was collected: two 110 kV overhead lines were transferred to 6 kV powered by Vygostrovskaya and Palokorgskaya HPPs. Electricity in the town of Sosnowiec was returned as soon as possible. August 15, 2012 all consumers were connected to a permanent scheme.
