JSC TGC-1 staged an energy marathon for Petersburg school children

30 April 2014

On April 30, 2014, at the venue for the International Children’s Design, Fine and Applied Art Competition, ‘The Room of My Dreams’ the JSC TGC-1 energy marathon got underway.

Eight teams of students from years 7-9, from residential school №28 and grammar school № 524 in St Petersburg, participated in the energy marathon. After the draw, each team was named after one of JSC TGC-1’s power plants in St Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast; they then travelled on a fascinating journey through the history of Russia’s oldest power generating facilities.

The children took part in an energy quest-quiz. The teenagers ‘warmed up’ during the first stage of the quiz, completing multiple-choice type tasks. The second stage of the quiz involved answering tricky questions about energy and the third stage was to put together a colourful energy puzzle based on JSC TGC-1 facilities.

A series of films, ‘Energy: how does it work?’ helped the students to cope with these tasks. Creative tasks also formed part of the programme: the teams were presented with their own project that focused on issues relating to resource conservation and energy efficiency.

– Children need to be told about energy efficiency and about having a responsible attitude when it comes to using resources. We conduct educational activities for school students on a regular basis – trips, workshops and open classes, said Svetlana Krasnoshchekova, JSC TGC-1 Head of Department for Work with the Authorities and Voluntary Organisations. “Today, everything went with a ‘Hurray!’ – a sea of smiles and positive emotions. The children learned a lot of new things and the tasks set for them will help to consolidate the material covered.”
