A new power-engineering facility has been put into operation to supply power to the historic centre of St Petersburg

Gala events were held today in St. Petersburg to mark the commissioning of a state-of-the-art power-engineering facility – 110/6 kV indoor switchgear equipment at the Centralnaya CHPP.

Denis Federov, General Director of LLC Gazprom Energoholding, Andrey Filippov, General Director of JSC TGC-1 and directors and expert professionals from power and construction companies attended the events.

The new facility is equipped with a modern automated control system and is designed to receive electricity from the generation capacities at the Centralnaya CHPP and distribute it to consumers. In addition, the switchgear equipment will ensure the reliable, manoeuverable transfer of power to consumers from the Okhtinskaya, Centralnaya and Vostochnaya substations. The indoor switchgear equipment will replace the 110 kV open switchgear system at the Centralnaya CHPP, built in 1968.

The commissioning of this facility will significantly enhance the reliability and stability of the power supply to St. Petersburg’s historic centre and will open up opportunities to connect new consumers.

“Today’s event indicates once again Gazprom’s contribution to modernizing and developing Saint Petersburg’s power infrastructure. The need to build new switchgear equipment was in particular dictated by the fact that the Centralnaya CHPP is the principal source of electricity for the city’s historic centre, supplying power to the Petersburg metro system, and vital public, social, cultural and educational institutions. The security of the energy supply is now significantly enhanced”, said Denis Fedorov.
