Consolidated Centralnaya CHPP of JSC TGC-1 celebrates its 15th anniversary

21 July 2014

July 21, 2014 marks the 15th anniversary of consolidation of the oldest power plants of St. Petersburg into the Centralnaya CHPP of JSC TGC-1.

History of the Centralnaya CHPP begins in the late XIX century. Construction of the first power plant of the Joint Stock Company "Gelios" (now Power Plant No. 2) in the Rozhdestvenskaya part of St. Petersburg had become a new chapter in the history of electrification of the city. Following that, the first current was given out by the power plant of the "Electric Lighting Company of 1886" (Power Plant No. 1) and power plant of the "Belgian Anonymous Electric Lighting Company" (Power Plant No. 3).

Over the years of service the power plants were repeatedly modernized, the refurbishment was constantly ongoing.

"Working at a power plant with such interesting and long history is a great honor and responsibility. For many years the Centralnaya CHPP has been reliably providing consumers with heat and electricity, but the years of operation are beginning to show," said the Director of the Centralnaya CHPP of JSC TGC-1 Andrey Nikolayev, "Comprehensive modernization of the Centralnaya CHPP is included among the priority projects of the TGC-1 Investment Programme. And the first stage of reconstruction – the reinforcement of 110/6 kV electricity grids – is completed. At the Power Plant No. 2 modern indoor switchgear of 110/6 kV was commissioned in June 2014. Next, comes the second stage - construction and commissioning of the substitute facilities for heat capacity at the Power Plant No. 2."

Modernization Project of the Centralnaya CHPP with respect to the Power Plant No. 1 involves the inroduction of new generating capacities, consisting of two gas turbines of 50 MW each, creating a new power distribution scheme with the construction of indoor switchgear, improving the reliability of existing equipment and partially withdrawing it from service. Further, the reconstruction of the Power Plant No. 3 will follow.

Commissioning of the new equipment will increase the efficiency of Centralnaya CHPP operation and will improve the quality of electricity and heat supply to the central districts of St. Petersburg.
