30 September 2014

On September 30, 2014, is the 59th anniversary of the commissioning of the Narvskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1.

The construction of the Narvskaya HPP in Ivangorod started pursuant to the plan of the post-war power sector development of the Soviet Union in 1950. The first hydroelectric generating unit was put into operation five years later.

“The Narvskaya HPP is the only power plant of the derivation type in the Leningrad Oblast,” said Oleg Medvedev, Director of the Narvskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1. “The professionalism of our staff, their ability to maintain and share the precious experience, and loyalty to our cause are the invaluable qualities that have enabled the power plant to operate without interruptions for nearly sixty years.”

The HPP carries out regular technical updates of equipment, and a transition to automated hydroelectric generating unit control systems is in process.

Unique by its geographical location, the Narvskaya HPP is engaged in the regulation of the level of the Narva water reservoir, which is located in the border zone of two countries, namely, Russia and Estonia. Power industry professionals are members of the Intergovernmental Russian-Estonian Commission on Rational Use of Trans-Boundary Waters along with government officials, water users, and research organizations.
