Energy workers and artists of Murmansk created a new artwork

A cooperation project between the energy workers and artists has been brought into life in Murmansk. In course of a week, the Murmanskaya CHPP process pavilion on Dostoyevsky Street has undergone a transformation into a modern urban art object. An industrial graffiti was created by artists of the Art from Barents creative association.

“We love our city and, just as many other locals do, we want it to become even more beautiful. Our facilities are spread across entire Murmansk, in addition to the boiler houses, it includes the heat units and the process pavilions. We care about how they look, and this is the reason why we were so enthusiastic once offered to have decorated one of the buildings,” said Stanislav Nazarov, the Murmanskaya CHPP Executive Director. “The pavilion is located in a busy street. And we hope residents of Murmansk are going to appreciate its new appearance.”

The main topic of this street art is energy, and it wasn’t by accident. The author of the sketch, Maria Mikhaylenko, had originally created it for the international Turn On Your Head animation and graphic art contest. The art object was carried out in real life by three graffiti artists.

“The starting point for it was how complicated the heat supply process seemed to us, along with the whole energy sector actually,” explained Pavel Zykov, the Director of Art from Barents. “But it is the energy workers who we really have to thank for not having to think about all of that and for our always lit and warm houses. That was our first experience of cooperating with a Murmansk company, and we hope it will continue to develop. Decorating the city infrastructure is an interesting creative art field.”
