Modernisation of TGC-1 Iovskaya HPP is complete

27 November 2014

The second hydroelectric unit was launched today at the TGC-1 Iovskaya HPP in Murmansk Oblast. The event has marked a completion of modernisation on this hydroelectric power plant located on the Kola Peninsula.

The ceremony was attended by the TGC-1 General Director Alexey Barvinok, the Governor of Murmansk Oblast Marina Kovtun, the representatives of authorities, as well as the leaders of the largest regional energy companies.

The Iovskaya HPP is part of one of the most powerful cascades in Murmansk Oblast, the TGC-1 Niva HPPs Cascade. Since 1960, it has been a testing ground for unique models of generation facilities produced in the country. A large-scale modernisation started at the HPP in 2012: the hydroelectric units’ propeller-type runners were replaced with the adjustable ones and a new turbine control system was introduced.

— JSC TGC-1 has completed a major stage of its investment programme, the TGC-1 General Director Alexey Barvinok said. — We keep on modernising the capacities of the Kola electric energy system. Let me congratulate the team of the Niva HPPs Cascade and thank all of the represented contractors for the work!

— JSC TGC-1 is regarded by the Murmansk Oblast Government as a reliable partner of the region, the Governor Marina Kovtun emphasised.

The technical re-equipment at the Iovskaya HPP has considerably improved the hydroelectric units efficiency and increased rationalisation of use and regulation of the reservoir’s water load - according to the needs of the Murmansk Oblast energy system. The plant’s general reliability has increased. The introduction of a latest automated control system permits to operate the plants from the Head Unit of the TGC-1 Niva Cascade.

The Murmansk Oblast energy workers have established a highly reliable and modern generating centre.
