Governor of Murmansk Oblast visits the Verhnetulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1

05 March 2015

On 05 March 2015, Governor of Murmansk Oblast Marina Kovtun visited the Verhnetulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1 as part of her working trip.

The plant plays the key role in the power distribution of Murmansk Oblast, as it ensures electricity distribution to Karelia and is designed as a reserve station for the whole Northern energy district. Power transmission lines connect the HPP with Murmansk, towns and enterprises of the Pechengsk District.

“Renovation of the Verhnetulomskaya HPP is set as a priority for JSC TGC-1.   Preliminary works that prepare for the complete replacement of the hydraulic units are now in progress”, explained Alexander Antipov, Director of the Kolskiy Branch of JSС TGC-1.

The Governor was also introduced to the operation process of the unique fish processing farm that raises juvenile fish of a rainbow trout, which is located in the transport tunnel near the turbine hall of the HPP.

The farm has been operating since 1992, and it consists of the incubatory section where juvenile fish are raised, and the breeder stock section. Upon reaching a certain weight juvenile fish are sold to the fish industries in Murmansk Oblast and Republic of Karelia.

“Being located underground in rock is advantageous to the farm. The well-proven technology of mixing warm water from the HPP and cold water from the water storage basin allows to provide ideal conditions for breeding of the juvenile fish”, claimed Igor Patsan, Director of the Tulomskiy and Serebryanskiye HPPs Cascade of JSC TGC-1. The cooperation between power engineers and owners of fish farms ensures the sustainable production. Regardless of all the difficulties related to the development of aquaculture, TGC-1 has been preserving and improving this unique enterprise for more than two decades now.

The governor had a working meeting in Verhnetulomskoye to discuss the transportation logistics for residents of Tuloma and Prichalniy to Murmashi. Due to the reconstruction of the spillway of the Niznetulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1, the drive through the dam will be closed starting from 01 June 2015”.

“We should keep in mind that upon the completion of the reconstruction of the spillway there will not be any passage”, explained Marina Kovtun. “This is a complex hydrotechnical edifice that was designed only for technical purposes”.
