The picked team of Apatity won the TGC-1 Cup for cross-country skiing

On April 5 at Zelenoborskiy rural settlement took place the final of the V children and youth competition in cross country skiing for the Cup of the Kolskiy Branch of JSC TGC-1. 180 skiers from eight cities and towns of the Murmansk Oblast and Karelia came to battle it out for victory. The 20th race of the tournament was held in the format of a relay of four.

- We are grateful to TGC-1 for the their considerable efforts and support of children's sports, - said Alexander Bogdanov, Head of the Kandalaksha district of the Murmansk Oblast in his welcoming speech to the participants.

Not only children, but also adults came out onto the ski track. The mixed relay among the guests of honor was attended by the representatives of TGC-1, the administrations of Zelenoborskiy rural settlement and Apatity. First to the finish line were the power engineers.

- Our Cup is aimed at promoting the cross-country skiing and sports. Each year, new cities join the tournament, a growing number of participants comes to fight for victory, - said Igor Ilyin, the Director of the competition.

For four consecutive years the team from Kandalaksha has won the Cup. This year Kandalaksha took the second team place. The victory went to the skiers from Apatity. The third place was taken by the team from Kovdora.

This competition is the most large-scale children's competition in the Arctic Circle, includes 4 stages and covers different skiing disciplines. In 2015, the stages of the Cup were held in Kandalaksha, Apatity and Zelenoborskiy. Skiers aged from 6 to 16 years from Kandalaksha, Polyarnye Zori, Kovdora, Umba, Chupa, Zelenoborskiy, Apatity, Olenegorsk, Monchegorsk and Kolsky District took part in it.
