Spillway renovation to start at the Nizhne-Tulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1

04 June 2015

Major spillway renovation is starting at the Nizhne-Tulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1. From June 8, 2015, vehicles will no longer be allowed to drive through the dam because of the work.

In the renovation, all the bridge elements will be upgraded completely, hydromechanical equipment including the emergency repair panel and segment spillway gates will be replaced step by step, and the substation will be renovated. The work will be completed in 2019.

“When the Nizhne-Tulomskaya HPP was built in the 1930s, no one expected that the traffic load on its hydraulic structures would ever be that big. The bearing structures of the spillway bridge have worn out because of the traffic, and driving is no longer safe,” said Igor Patsan, Director of the Tuloma and Serebryanskiye HPPs Cascade. “The spillway is above all a hydraulic structure that is of key value for the power plant, and the renovation will improve its reliability.”

The importance of the Nizhne-Tulomskaya HPP for salmon spawning was also considered in the planning of the renovation. All the environmental regulations will be observed.

Entry to the island where private houses and gardens are located by foot and car will be enabled through a checkpoint in Murmashi.
