Technical conference to take place at the Paz HPPs Cascade

06 July 2015

On 03 July, 2015 a technical conference at Rayakoski settlement of Murmansk Oblast took place with JSC TGC-1 energy workers participating. The event is dedicated to two memorable events: 60th anniversary of the Paz HPPs Cascade and 50th anniversary of electricity export from the Kola Peninsula to Finland.

Energy workers discussed plans for equipment upgrade, prospects of export relations, dwelling upon environmental and water use issues.

"The Paz HPPs Cascade is a unique facility as it operates for three countries, supplying electricity not only to Murmansk Oblast, but also to the north of Norway and Finland,"- remarked Director of the Kolskiy Branch at JSC TGC-1 Alexander Antipov, — "It is owing to the construction of the Paz Cascade that economic cross-border cooperation within the Barents Region in electricity sector started developing”.

Four Cascade plants – Kaitakoski, Rayakoski, Janiskoski, and Hevoskoski − ensure power supply to a Finnish power system. Borisoglebskaya HPP exports energy to Norway. Plant operation is fully automated: all processes are managed from the dispatcher panel at Rayakoski HPP.

"The Cascade was built by Soviet specialists and their Scandinavian partners. Plant equipment is highly reliable, and we continue its upgrade: by the year-end, System of Technological Data Exchange with the Automated System of the System Operator (STDE ASSO) and Automated Information and Measuring System of Commercial Energy Metering (AIMSCEM) will be implemented, and hydraulic unit at Hevoskoski HPP will undergo overhaul," - mentioned Alexander Antipov.
