Ivalo hosted the meeting of energy engineers from Russia and Finland

On August 15 and 16, 2015, Finnish town of Ivalo hosted festivities dedicated to the 50th anniversary of electricity exports from the Kola energy system to Finland. The Russian party was represented by Alexander Antipov, Director of TGC-1 Kolskiy Branch, Alexander Novikov, Chief Engineer of TGC-1 Kolskiy Branch, and Nikolay Vorobyev, Director of the Paz HPPs Cascade of JSC TGC-1.

TGC-1 Paz HPPs Cascade is involved in electricity supply to the northern parts of Finland and Norway. Four power plants of the Cascade – Kaitakoski, Rayakoski, Yaniskoski, and Hevoskoski − can generate electricity to supply to the Finnish energy system. Borisoglebskaya HPP is responsible for exports to Norway.

The parties have vast experience of cooperation in the energy sector. As ordered by the Soviet Union, Imatran Voima, Finish company, built four HPPs on the Kola Peninsula. The countries have signed an Agreement for joint control over Inari Lake which resources are used by Russian and Norwegian HPPs.

"The unique geographical location of the Paz HPPs Cascade enables it to serve three countries. This is a prerequisite for close cooperation and development of the countries in the Barents region," said Alexander Antipov. "We value our partnership." The best practices and expertise resulting from these joint efforts is key to efficient and fast resolution of all issues and development of the energy sector in the North.

To celebrate this memorable date, a photo exhibition opened in Ivalo telling visitors about the history of construction of hydroelectric power plants on the Paz River and Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP. The exhibition welcomes guests of the city until August 19.
