JSC TGC-1 Completes Sweeping Rebuild of Palyeozerskaya HPP

29 December 2015

JSC TGC-1 Suna HPPs Cascade employees completed the two-year sweeping rebuild of Palyeozerskaya HPP and launched hydroelectric unit No. 1. Conventional  hydroelectric unit control system running on oil pressure equipment was replaced with a new small electrocylinder control system. Two months ago, a similar control system was installed on hydroelectric unit No. 2.

"Kondopozhskaya HPP was the pilot project for the implementation of the small electrocylinder control system in the North West. The equipment worked well on a 4.2 MW hydroelectric unit, so we decided to install it on a more powerful turbine. Since our contractors already had the required experience, all necessary work at Palyeozerskaya HPP was finished ahead of schedule," points out Evgeny Lopatin, the Director of JSC TGC-1 Suna HPPs Cascade.

Two controllers installed on each hydroelectric unit control electrocylinders and auxiliary equipment at Palyeozerskaya HPP and exercise operations control. The controllers work simultaneously and conduct self- and cross-diagnosis. Besides, now the two hydroelectric units will have a general controller that can enable the emergency protection system.

These technologies allow for the most reliable and uninterrupted energy supply to consumers and a better HPP environment safety. Moreover, TGC-1 is upgrading all automated systems on this equipment, including relay protection, generator excitation systems and automatic process control systems (APCS).

Soon hydroelectric units of Palyeozerskaya HPP will be controlled remotely from Kondopozhskaya HPP.
