30 September 2015

In 2015, the anniversary of 130 years since the start of the electrification of the Hermitage was celebrated. In honour of the commemorative date, an agreement on cooperation between JSC TGC-1 and the State Hermitage Museum was signed in the Council Hall of the State Hermitage on September 30, 2015.

On the part of the Museum, the agreement was signed by Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum; on the part of JSC TGC-1 — by Alexey Barvinok, General Director.

‘The museum holds a special place in the history of St. Petersburg energy. The first Hermitage lighting project was unique. It was contemplated to provide illumination in a thousand different rooms at the same time. This scale of electricity application was completely unknown both for Russia and Europe,' - Mikhail Piotrovsky said. — 'Our friends are those who are willing to contribute to the preservation and development of Russian culture. And we are happy to welcome JSC TGC-1 in the Hermitage Friends' Club.'

According to the 3-year agreement, JSC TGC-1 will support programs for electrification development of the State Hermitage, preservation of the collection of historic chandeliers and lighting fixtures, implementation of museum lighting to showcase the collections, provision of restoration laboratories with special lights, and implementation of energy saving technologies.

‘The history of St. Petersburg and the Hermitage are closely intertwined. It was the Winter Palace that was the first building in Russia, whose halls and facades were illuminated with electric lights manufactured at the largest power plant at the time, the "electricity factory", - Alexey Barvinok said. – ‘Today, the "electricity factory" comprises HPPs and CHPPs of JSC TGC-1, which produce energy for the entire North-West of Russia and, of course, illuminate and heat the Hermitage. I am sure that through our cooperation, the Hermitage halls will meet all requirements of a modern museum.’

During the agreement, it is also planned to design and develop museum lighting and energy saving at static exhibitions and in open storage rooms in the main museum complex, in the General Staff building, the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre, as well as the restoration museum laboratories.
