PJSC TGC-1 discussed the readiness of its power plants to the flood season
On March 14, 2017, the annual meeting of the Commission for Prevention and Elimination of Emergencies and Fire Safety was held at the Administration of PJSC TGC-1.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the key EMERCOM departments in St. Petersburg, Leningrad Region and the North-West Regional Center, the North-West Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, and the Company's management.
The meeting was focused on readiness of HPPs and CHPPs to resist the flood waters during the snow and ice-melting period, as well as on prevention of the potential negative consequences.
— The current water level in the rivers of the Leningrad Region is close to the average annual level or below the standard. This spring we expect precipitation to be by 10-50% above the standard. The flood peak is expected in the Leningrad Region in March–April, in Karelia – in April, and in the Murmansk Region – in May, – Marina Bogdan, the head of precipitation forecast group of the St. Petersburg State Hydrometeorological Service noted.
The power specialists are currently monitoring the condition of hydraulic structures. PJSC TGC-1 determined the procedure for interacting with the flood commissions of municipal entities and the territorial units of EMERCOM. The Company continuously checks the warning systems and conducts the appropriate trainings with the EMERCOM unit teams.
The first large-scale exercises with the EMERCOM professionals, power specialists and regional authorities will be held at Svetogorskaya HPP of PJSC TGC-1 on March 28, 2017.

Meeting of the Commission for Prevention and Elimination of Emergencies and Fire Safety has been held upon initiative of PJSC TGC-1 since 2010. These meetings allow to coordinate the activities of all the services, responsible for preventing the negative consequences of floods and fires.
In 2017, the number of participants involved representatives of the territorial units of EMERCOM of Russia and the St. Petersburg State Hydrometeorological Service, and chief engineers of HPPs and CHPPs of St. Petersburg, Republic of Karelia, Murmansk Region and Leningrad Region.
Interaction of different agencies is one of the key factors to control the flood situation. Still, the key focus of power specialists is to provide safe and accident-free operation of hydraulic structures and power plants during the flood season, and to make the best use of hydropower resources of the region.
