New Water Treatment Facilities and a Closed Fuel Oil Drain System of Yuzhnaya Boiler Facility of Murmanskaya CHPP have been Put into Trial Operation
On 14 March 2018, the Governor of the Murmansk Oblast, Marina Kovtun, and the General Director of TGC-1 Alexey Barvinok visited Yuzhnaya boiler facility in Murmansk and got acquainted with the progress of construction of new water treatment facilities and a closed fuel oil drain system.
These projects are implemented within the framework of the Environmental Agreement between TGC-1 and the Murmansk Oblast.
Alexey Barvinok, General Director of TGC-1, and Stanislav Nazarov, General Director of PJSC Murmanskaya CHPP, demonstrated to the Governor the operation of steam-free heating and closed fuel oil drainage systems, which allow to reduce spreading of fuel odour in the urban environment.
"In order to improve the environmental situation in the city of Murmansk, we decided to switch to state-of-the-art fuelling technologies," Alexei Barvinok said, "Minimisation of the negative impact, implementation of the Environmental Agreement are the priorities of the enterprise and make an important contribution to the creation of a comfortable urban environment."
During the visit to the station, a complex of water treatment facilities of Yuzhnaya boiler facility was introduced into trial operation with the main purpose of deep cleaning of industrial and storm wastewater to reduce the environmental impact on the water area of the Kola Bay.
"I thank the management of TGC-1 for the constructive work and contribution to the common issue of nature conservation in our Northern Region. Ecology is not a whim; it is a requirement of life. The introduction of a steam-free fuel oil drainage is a radical step forward in improving our quality of life. Equally significant is the commissioning of water treatment facilities at the boiler facility. It should be noted that generally, the enterprises of the Murmansk Oblast have taken a good pace of environmental activities, in the introduction of the best available technologies during the Year of Ecology. It is important now not to cut down momentum, the Governor of the Murmansk Oblast Marina Kovtun said.

The Environmental Agreement between TGC-1 and the Murmansk Oblast was concluded on 26 January 2017 in Murmansk as part of the International Ecological Scientific Conference that opened the Year of Ecology in the region. The document provides the continuing cooperation in implementing several significant environmental projects at the heat supply sites of PJSC Murmanskaya CHPP.
PJSC Murmanskaya CHPP is a subsidiary of TGC-1 and the major heat power supplier in the Murmansk Oblast. It supplies heat to 75% of Murmansk consumers. It consists of Centralnaya CHPP, Yuzhnaya CHPP, and Vostochnaya boiler facilities.
PJSC Murmanskaya CHPP implements current technologies, reducing anthropogenic impact, supporting resource conservation and improving energy efficiency as part of its investment and maintenance programmes. The company performs continuous production monitoring to ensure compliance with the permissible emission standards.
