The innovative project for the implementation of a unique hydroelectric generating unit management system at TGC-1's Palieozerskaya HPP was awarded a golden cup at the 17th international conference Global Energy and Renewable Sources (Amersfoort, the Netherlands).

"We believe we deserve such a great prize. Brand new equipment was installed at Palieozerskaya HPP of the Suna HPPs Cascade back in 2015. As part of the project, the hydroelectric generating unit regulating system based on oil pressure equipment was replaced with an innovative system of management by means of an electric cylinder with reserve power management lines. It was the second project in terms of their use at hydroelectric power plants of the North-West after their introduction at Kondopozhskaya HPP and the first project in terms of the 100% reserve, ensuring an exceptionally high operational reliability of hydroelectric generating units,"  Aleksandr Sedelnikov, Chief Engineer of the Suna HPPs Cascade of TGC-1, told. "Innovations have significantly improved the reliability of power supply to consumers and the sustainability of plants."

The new equipment rules out the uncontrolled degradation of the frequency and capacity control loop of the hydroelectric generating units as a result of worn out seals and increased abnormal oil flow between the chambers of hydraulic drives and other hydraulic distribution devises. The reliability of plant regulation with hydroelectric generating units raises along with the use of new high-quality electromechanic linear drives.

TGC-1 is a leading producer and supplier of electricity and heat in the North-West of Russia. TGC-1 comprises 53 power plants within four constituent entities of the Russian Federation: St. Petersburg, the Republic of Karelia, and Leningrad and Murmansk Oblasts.

The Karelsky branch of TGC-1 includes 16 hydroelectric power plants, which form three HPPs cascades: Vyg, Suna and Kem HPPs Cascades, as well as Petrozavodskaya combined heat and power plant. Hydropower potential of the region is developed in the basins of the rivers Suna, Vyg and Kem. Total capacity of TGC-1's plants in the Republic of Karelia: electric — 833.7 MW, heat — 689 Gcal/h.
