Renovation of Yanikoski HPP of TGC-1 gets started

10 June 2019

The project for renovation of Yanikoski HPP of TGC-1's Paz HPPs Cascade started. Hydroelectric generating unit No. 1 will be refurbished in 2019, and hydroelectric generating unit No. 2 in 2020.

The refurbishment will provide for replacement of main transformers, upgrade of the relay protection and the plant's automatics and major repair of the main generation equipment, as well as replacement of the current electric excitation system with a thyristor one, and introduction of speed regulators and shaft whipping control systems of the hydroelectric generator.

"The project targets the transition to modern engineering software tools for electricity production control. As a result, we will be able to obtain relevant data on the performance of hydraulic turbines in real time and visualise it to improve the reliability and safety of the plant's operation," Oleg Tyapinov, Chief Engineer of TGC-1's Kolsky Branch, noted.

An automatic process control system of the plant level will be introduced at Yanikoski HPP upon the project completion.

For reference

Yanikoski HPP is part of the Paz HPPs Cascade of TGC-1. The plant was commissioned on 26 December 1950. Two hydroelectric generating units with a total capacity of 30.2 MW were installed at the HPP.

TGC-1 is a leading producer and supplier of electricity and heat in the North-West of Russia. The Company comprises power plants within the four constituent entities of the Russian Federation: St. Petersburg, Republic of Karelia, and Leningrad and Murmansk Oblasts.
